Category: Zone BBS Suggestions and Feedback
hello,
i would like to make a sugestion so that if users want to delete there account, they can with out the help of an cl. what do you all think?
i'm against this idea.
firstly, it's been suggested a lot of times before.
secondly, it messes up the User numbers we all have,
and thirdly... say if you have to go away somewhere, or move house or something and when you are free you wanna come back later, it would be nice if your acount was there for you.
i do think though, all those users that never log in for years and years.. something should be done about those.
Even with the help of a Community leader you can't delete your account. If you don't wish to use it, simply don't. That's all there is too it.
Accounts have never been deleted on this website.
Dan.
Beeny, my suggestion for you is that you look to see if something has been suggested before you bring it up. This has been brought up before, and if you'd looked, you would see that the answer has always been a resounding no. Even we as CL's do not have the power to delete your account.
If you no longer wish to use it, clear all the information out of your profile so there is nothing for anyone to look at, and then simply do not log in anymore. Problem solved.
There is, however, a little-known way to permanently exterminate your account on Facebook. If you ever want it PM me.
we're not talking about facebook, we're talking about the zone.
Exactly.
I think if some one wants their account disabled, It should be their choice.
That is my opinion and I will stick to it!
I wrote three times to support and here I am still.
Hey. If you want your account disabled, change your password and press a whole bunch of gibberish and don't record it. You won't be able to get in again, if that's so important to you. Signing up was evidently important enough to you.
you are entitled to your opinion, of course you are :)
i just think if it really bothers you that much, remove all the info from your acount. that way it's almost like it being disabled because no one can actually get any of your inff. and again, if you wanna log in again sometime in the near future, wouldn't it be nice to know that your acount is still there?
I'm not against this idea. I just don't see why so many people get into such a huff about having your account deleted when you can, as others have said, just clear your profile and not log in anymore.
It's probably because modern social networking sites allow for this and the data goes away from public areas.
Not ahuff, the masses seem to want it,the market has spoken: Facebook, Twitter and everyone else allows it.
I do agree that you should replace your profile's content with jibberish or white space so the server's data is updated.
There's even a permanent account deletion link for Facebook which has floated around for a year and I know several who, for good reason, have used it.
The only way I would insist that an account should be able to be deleted is if something seriously harmful happened, either to said acount, or to the acount holder. On facebook and twitter, yes, they do probably have a number for your account, but your account is not represented by this number the way it is on the zone.
Yes they all have ID numbers that's pretty industry standard. A social network is nothing but a huge ginormous relational database with lots of fluffy and shiny things attached to it. That is why, on Facebook for instance, you can see in the Friends Suggestions people you haven't heard from in twenty years: a friend of a friend ... the relationship exists in realtime programmatically anyway.
Removing records or tables of records from databases is part of having databases to begin with. Although since on this site every post is enumerated on screen (post 1 post 2 ...) either the blocked name would simply have to not show or show as inactive or something. The real deal is you can't remove your posts. That's part of how this site works. If you're real interested in putting your account into an inactive status just clear the profile, buy a premium if it's worth that much to you, change the username to a set of random digits so Google searches will no longer show, and you're good. Out $25, but people pay a lot more to cover their tracks many times.
Um... The old username would show up in user name history.
how do you remove your profile on twitter?
We're not talking about Twitter, we're talking about the zone. LOL. See your earlier post Time Keeper.
lol. it seems like months since i posted that and it was only a few days ago....
thanks for the laugh!
